I had the opportunity to spend the majority of this week in the City of Brotherly Love while attending the NAPFA Fall Conference.
I really enjoy attending financial planning conferences for a lot of reasons. I love my job and all of the work that I get to do to help make others’ lives better but attending a conference can be a nice change of pace and a nice chance to get out of the office for a couple of days.
NAPFA conferences provide opportunities to network with others who are passionate about fee-only financial planning and acting in a fiduciary capacity. They allow me to share ideas, learn from others, sharpen my skills and knowledge, and develop new strategies and practices that I didn’t utilize before. Then, I can take all of the things that I learned at the conference back to my teammates at work and share with them to make our processes and practices better.
One of the biggest things that I get out of conferences is motivation. Listening to speakers and speaking with fellow financial planners who are passionate about what they do and the way that the do it (fee-only fiduciaries) lights a fire under me to figure out what I need to do to be better. I was fortunate to get to hear some great speakers who helped me to change the way I look at some things and to share different practices with fellow financial planners who are motivated to do their best as well.
I’d encourage anyone to attend a conference, no matter what industry you’re in, to learn something new, sharpen your skills, gain some motivation, and make friends while doing so.
