One Year In

2 minute read

One year ago today, on June 11, 2018, I shared this blog on my personal social media channels for the first time. I had been posting shorter “mini blogs” about personal finance topics on my social media since the beginning of 2018, but I decided to create the website as a way for me to store my writing. I want to say thank you very much to all of those who have at least taken a second out of your day to read what I’ve written. I know that there are some who read everyone of my posts, no matter how terrible they are, and there are some who have seen them on social media tons of times and have never bothered to read. I understand how many different ways your attention gets pulled and how much information is out there to consume, and I truly appreciate those who direct their time and attention to reading what I have to say even for a couple of seconds of their day. I can only hope that I’ve provided you with some value and have been able to teach you something or challenge your thinking in a positive way.

Over the past year there have been some points of inconsistency in my writing and publishing posts, but overall I’ve remained pretty true to posting twice per week. Many of these have been a struggle and I’m sure it shows when you read it, but those posts have been more of a way for me to push myself and remain consistent. I hope that through the quality of my writing you were able to recognize those posts that I was really passionate about and that I thought could help educate others.

My whole goal with this project has been to educate others on personal finance and challenge the “conventional wisdom” that may not actually be so wise. Unfortunately, there are so many phrases thrown around about personal finance that have been held to be true for a long time which aren’t actually correct. If I can help at least one person understand some of those things and get their life pointed in a more positive financial direction, then I’ve done my job.

I’ve learned a ton, continued to push myself to consume personal finance information from many different sources to continue learning and parse out things that I believe are right and wrong and that I want to share with my readers, and kept my knowledge and skills sharp through continuously researching topics that I’m writing about. Overall, I’m sure this blog has been much more of a benefit to me than it has to anyone who has read or followed along with it.

Here are my best performing posts over the past year, according to Google Analytics:

  1. How I Save Over $7,000 Per Year
  2. A First-Time Home Buying Experience (Guest post by Austin & Jackie Angel)
  3. We’re Engaged!
  4. Increase Your Net Worth By 7,307% In One Year? It Can Happen.
  5. 2018 Semi-Annual Goal Check-In

Of course, I welcome any comments/feedback/constructive criticism/etc.!
